Autism Assessments
Thoughtful, evidence-based autism assessments for children and adolescents.
If you’re noticing ongoing differences in how your child communicates, relates, or manages the world around them, you may be considering an autism assessment.
We provide psychological autism assessments for children and adolescents that are careful, respectful, and grounded in evidence-based practice. Our aim is to help families understand their child more clearly and feel supported in deciding next steps.
You might be considering an autism assessment if…
Parents often reach out when they notice:

Sometimes concerns have been present for years. Other times, they become clearer as children grow and social or school demands increase.
What is an autism assessment?
An autism assessment is a structured process that looks at a child’s development, communication style, social understanding, sensory experiences, and emotional regulation.
At Zen Society, assessments are guided by current diagnostic criteria and evidence-based tools. We take care to understand the child within their broader context — including family, school, and everyday life.
The assessment process may include:
interviews with parents or caregivers
developmental history
questionnaires
standardised assessment tools
consideration of learning, emotional, and sensory factors
Autism can present differently in each child, and part of the process is understanding how a child experiences and interacts with the world.

Initial appointment
We spend time understanding your concerns, your child’s history, and current challenges.
Assessment sessions
Assessment tools are selected based on your child’s age, needs, and referral questions.
Feedback and report
Findings are explained in plain language. A written report is provided where appropriate.
Next steps
We discuss practical recommendations, which may include therapy, school guidance, or other supports.
There is time to ask questions and talk through what the results mean for your child and family.
A respectful, child-centred approach
We understand that autism assessments can bring up a lot of emotion for families. Our approach is:
calm and respectful
neuro-affirming
focused on understanding, not judgement
We don’t rush the process, and we aim to make sure you leave with clarity rather than confusion.
Do I need a referral?
A GP referral is not required to book an autism assessment with us.
If you have reports or information from schools or other professionals, these can be shared as part of the assessment process.

Taking the next step
