ADHD Assessments

Clear, evidence-based ADHD assessments for children, adolescents and adults.

If attention, organisation, emotional regulation or impulse control have been ongoing challenges — for your child or for yourself — an ADHD assessment can help bring clarity.

We provide psychological ADHD assessments that are thorough, evidence-based and explained in plain language. The aim is to help you understand what’s going on and what support may be helpful moving forward.

Wondering if an ADHD Assessment is the right place to start?

People often reach out to us when:

A child is struggling to focus, regulate emotions, or manage behaviour
School feedback raises concerns about attention, impulsivity or learning
Everyday tasks feel harder than they should — organisation, memory, follow-through
Emotions feel intense or difficult to manage
Strategies have been tried but haven’t led to lasting change
ADHD has been suggested by a teacher, GP, or other professional

For adults, it’s common to come to an assessment later in life — often after years of feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or like you’re constantly playing catch-up.

Wanting an assessment doesn’t mean something is “wrong”. It means you’re looking for understanding.

What is an ADHD assessment?

An ADHD assessment is a structured process designed to understand attention, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and how these affect daily life.

At Zen Society, assessments are guided by current diagnostic criteria and evidence-based tools. The process looks at the whole picture — not just symptoms in isolation.

Depending on age and individual needs, an ADHD assessment may include:

A detailed clinical interview

Developmental and background history

Questionnaires completed by parents, teachers, or the individual

Standardised assessment tools

Consideration of other factors that may impact attention or behaviour

ADHD can look different in different people, and part of the assessment process is understanding how it presents for this individual.

ADHD assessments for children and adolescents

For children and teens, ADHD can affect:

Learning and classroom behaviour
Emotional regulation and frustration tolerance
Friendships and social interactions
Confidence and self-esteem
Family dynamics and daily routines

Our assessments take into account a child’s developmental stage, school environment, and family context. We aim to help parents understand not just whether ADHD criteria are met, but how a child’s strengths and challenges interact day to day.

ADHD assessments for adults

Many adults seek assessment after years of feeling:

Overwhelmed by work or life demands
Chronically disorganised or mentally exhausted
Emotionally reactive or easily stressed
Frustrated by patterns that haven’t changed despite effort

An adult ADHD assessment can help make sense of long-standing difficulties and provide a clearer framework for understanding how your brain works.

What to expect from the assessment process

We aim to make the process clear and supportive from start to finish.

01

Initial appointment

We take time to understand concerns, history, and current challenges.

02

Assessment sessions

Assessment tools are selected based on individual needs and referral questions.

03

Feedback and reporting

Findings are explained in plain language, with a written report provided where applicable.

04

Next steps

We discuss practical recommendations and support options, which may include therapy, school guidance, or further referrals if needed.

You’ll have time to ask questions and talk through what the results mean for you or your child.

A supportive, evidence-based approach

We understand that ADHD assessments can feel daunting — especially for parents who may already feel overwhelmed, or adults who have spent years doubting themselves.

Our approach is:

Respectful and non-judgemental

Grounded in evidence-based practice

Focused on understanding strengths as well as challenges

We don’t rush the process, and we aim to make sure you leave with clarity rather than confusion.

Do I need a referral?

A GP referral is not required to book an ADHD assessment with us. If you do have a referral or supporting information from a school or other professional, you’re welcome to share this as part of the process.

Taking the next step

If you’re wondering whether an ADHD assessment is right for you or your child, you don’t need to figure that out alone.

We’re happy to talk things through and answer questions before you book.

Assessments are conducted by our Clinical Psychologists, Dr Sophie and Talia
